August 2010 - Build with CaRe Prittlewell Chapel Film Project
Blade Education can announce that they will be working in partnership with Southend Borough Council and Build with CaRe to document the reconstruction of the Prittlewell Chapel in the North Road Burial Ground in Southend. BE will be making a total of 6 films to document the process, which will be available via Youtube and partnership members websites. The first of these films will be available at the end of August and will introduce the project and explain what is happening and what is special about the renovation of this wonderful Victorian chapel.
July 2010 - The Phoenix Project DVD premiere.
The Phoenix Project DVD received its premiere this month at the East 15 Studio in Southend.
The event was arranged by the Westborough School and pupils, staff, parents, governors, council representatives and many others filled out the venue. Proceeded by speeches from the Westborough Head, Jenny Davies and Deputy Head, Gerri Bennett and a performance from the Year 5 orchestra, the Blade Education DVD was watched by the gathering on the cinema sized screen at East 15 and was enthusiastically received by everyone in the audience especially the stars - the children of Year 5 of the Westborough School.
You can see a taster film of the Phoenix Project on our films page:
Blade would like to thank the Westborough School, Creative Partnerships and all of those who contributed to the Phoenix Project and the Blade Education production.
June 2010 - Blade Education form partnership with Norfolk.
Blade Education is happy to have formed a partnership with a multi agency working group in Norfolk in order to develop a programme of Child Protection and Domestic Violence resources. The partnership will begin in July and the project is expected to deliver its output in January 2011. Working with Blade Education will be Norfolk and West Norfolk Constabulary Child and Domestic Abuse units to assess the needs and appropriate information to include in the project that is expected to output 2 sets of films in 5 languages.
Blade Education is proud to announce that its ESIS Online service has reached 20 languages with the addition of Ukrainian. The E-Schools Induction Service has been running continuously since the beginning of this school year providing the 21 child friendly films that contain the information that all children should have available to them when they start school.
The addition of the Ukrainian translation to ESIS Online brings Blade Education right on target with its aim of
bringing ESIS Online from the original 11 languages up to 20 by the end of the school year.
With value for money at a premium in the current climate, ESIS Online offers an excellent range of induction material for a relatively low cost when compared to bringing in an interpreter or having your own induction materials translated when the standard cost is upwards of 10p a word. The agency cost of translating a similar amount of content to ESIS Online would be at least £500 per language, so
we think that 20 languages for £250+vat per school licence is good value in anyone's terms.
Blade Education, working with Royal Opera House Creative Partnerships
and The Westborough School have completed the filming of the Phoenix Project and have moved on to working on the main documentary film which will be completed by the end of May.
The Phoenix Project is a CP / Westborough programme that is a part of the 3 year working agreement between these two partners. The Phoenix Project is based around the regeneration of the North Road Burial Ground in Southend and involves the children of Year 5 of the Westborough School generating the ideas for and producing art work that will be included in the rebuilt Prittlewell Chapel inside the NRGB.
Blade Education has been working since January with CP and Westborough to document the progress of the Phoenix Project and have worked closely with the staff and pupils of the school to make this a pupil led process and documentary.

March 2010 - ESIS Online's 19th Language Translation goes live.
Blade Education are happy to announce that the Russian version of ESIS Online is now live and available to users on the service website www.esisonline.co.uk .
With huge thanks to our translator
Valeria Makara from West Norfolk Voluntary and Community Action this translation of the ESIS Online films makes the total number of languages available on the service 19, with more to come before the end of the school year.
With the addition of the Russian language translation, ESIS Online now covers the language needs of over 95% of the children coming into UK schools and their families. The service offers schools the security of knowing that all incoming children and parents have a realistic view of school life and know what to expect when they start school and what is expected of them.
ESIS Online costs £250+vat for a yearly school licence, which any school can purchase via invoice or at our website: www.blade-education.org.uk/buyesis.html
February 2010 -
BE starts on the Parents version of ESIS Online.
We are putting together an information service to help primary schools talk to the parents and guardians of all of their new pupils. This is to follow on from the work we have done on the children’s version, ESIS Online, which is currently available in 18 languages (www.esisonline.co.uk).
We would really appreciate the input of educators and parents on what subjects are difficult to get across to new parents from varying backgrounds and levels of literacy and understanding of the English language.
Currently we are working with the following subjects:
Admissions and enrolment
Illness and emergencies
After school clubs
Lessons and subjects
Attendance expectations
Letters home
Behaviour of parents and children
Lunch and food
Children’s privacy issues
Parents evenings
Child protection
PTA groups
Complaints procedures
Safety in school
Contacting the school
School term dates
Discipline procedures
School staff details
Daily school times
School trips and permissions
EAL teaching
School uniform
General school rules
Special educational needs
Toilets and general hygiene
Sport and kit
Please email and let us know any areas you have had difficulty communicating to parents so that we can include it in this service and help build understanding.
We are happy to announce that our 18th language is now live and ready for all users to access.
Dari is one of the two official languages of Afghanistan and we would like to thank our very talented community translator Somaya Bakhshi for all of her help and fantastic work.
ESIS Online heading for 20 languages.
ESIS Online is still expanding and is expected to reach 20 languages by the end of January 2010.
The voice over for the Dari translation of the vital information contained in the service has been recorded and the final checks are in motion before the Dari resource is added for all users.
We also have the translations in place for German and Algerian Arabic and we will be recording those languages as soon as we are able. So watch this space and we will let you know what is live, what is coming soon and what is there to help you to welcome children to their new school.
